50/50 Model
This model is designed to bridge the gap between traditional log and progressive longboard surfing.
The outline template is a combination of the Bar Fly mid section, Gem nose. Parallel lines for forward drive on the nose. The tail has a pronounced hip on the side fins derived from the Fusion Pro tail out line breaking the rail line and allowing responsiveness when surfed off the tail through round house cut backs, bottom turns and re-entries.
The bottom rocker curve is relatively flat like a log from nose to just past the mid point which is back from centre. So it paddles fast and catches waves early.
Back from centre the rocker increases quickly into a modern performance longboard tail flip.
Business in the front party at the back!
The bottom contours are a full rail to rail single concave which blends into a double con-caved Vee bottom in the back third of the board. Creates lift during nose rides and responsiveness once back on the tail.
The rails are key to this design. With full rail-to-rail single concave bottoms on longboards, they tended to be ‘sticky’ suck onto the wave face and feel like they are on railway tracks. So I added a beveled bottom rail, which is tapered on the bottom edge so goes from 40mm at the front to 0 at the side fins, it creates a hard edge for the single concave to release from.
It serves two purposes. The angle of the bevel lifts the rail apex higher. Through the midsection and nose, it allows the rail to be more like a 50/50 rail. It also allows the deck to remain flat rail to rail hiding volume and foam without making the rail too chunky. Rails become mid to low though the back third.
Fin Set up is a 10” box with side fins set 16 1/4” from tail, 8” or 9” centre fin , small side fins. Can also be ridden as a single with increase in fin size.
